These effects on the developing nervous system, before homeostatic regulatory mechanisms are properly calibrated, often differ from their effects on mature systems. The reproductive system in female pigs is located dorsal to the intestines in the pelvic cavity. Ovaries are the site of oocyte production and maturation. In pigs, each ovary is attached to a highly coiled uterine horn (similar to a human's fallopian tubes). Unlike human fetuses which develop in the uterus, pig fetuses develop in the uterine horns.
